[Review] The Time Traveler's Boyfriend [+ Giveaway]

My stop is the first, but be sure to check out the other stops on the tour in the coming days, here!

The Time Traveler's Boyfriend

Goodreads | Amazon | Read Chapter One
Claudia’s geeky boyfriend Adam has just invented a time machine.

No, really—he has. She doesn't believe it either until Adam provides her with definitive proof that he does, in fact, have a functioning time travel device sitting in the living room of his Manhattan brownstone.

But instead of getting ready to accept the Nobel Prize, Adam has very different plans for his groundbreaking invention. He wants Claudia to use the machine to travel back in time and stop the accident that landed him in a wheelchair over a decade ago, and prevent the trajectory of events that he believes ruined his life.

When Claudia reluctantly agrees to become the first human time traveler, she knows she’s making a big gamble. If she succeeds, she could have the happy ending with commitment-phobic Adam that she’s always dreamed of. But if she fails, it could mean the end of the universe as she knows it.

Review

I enjoyed this book so much! The book is told entirely from Claudia's point of view. She is a thirty eight year old woman who has found the love of her life. Adam is a geeky, but sweet and sexy man who is the same age as her. All she wants to do is marry him and move in with him, but he seems to have residual commitment issues. He tells her that ever since he landed in the wheelchair, his life has been miserable- she is the only good thing in her life. When he builds a time machine and asks Claudia to go back in time and prevent him from having the accident, she realizes she will do anything for him to make him happy- even if it means she will lose him, she will help him. Although things do not always go as well as planned.

You guys, I loved this story. I normally do not like reading a story about a character almost 18 years older than me, but I absolutely could not help but love Claudia and Adam. I fell a little bit in love with 39 year old Adam when she recounted her time with him and 22 year old Adam when she met him while traveling back in time. I just.. I loved the characters.

The story was so well- told. I loved the paradoxes mixing the past and present and the way the author tied everything together. The romance in the book was sweet and sexy, but also real. It was splendid.

I like how the book is not solely about the romance. Claudia meets a younger Adam and cannot help but notice the slight changes between him and her Adam. Claudia also gets to meet her younger self and I was fascinated that the author explored the changes we experience throughout different ages. Claudia is nothing like she was back then. In fact, she is disgusted by her younger self. It was a very interesting concept, having her look back on herself and see what she was, and be able to find pride for what she has accomplished since then.

Some points were a bit predictable, but I was not too upset. I was actually excited to know what would happen and if I was right. I was just so eager to see Claudia and Adam when it was all said and done. I wanted to know how it would end and what would change.

All I can say about that is that I loved the ending. It was sweet and heartwarming. I closed this book with a satisfied feeling that I had read a book I greatly enjoyed, but with a hint of sadness that the story was over. I will definitely be reading more books by this author. I can only pray her future characters are as endearing and her story-lines are as though- provoking as this one was. So. Good!

But now, a greater threat lies within her own dare, and she must run. If she stays, Kyle Carstairs will try to force their Mating, seeking the added power their union would provide.

Review
Let me start out by saying that I cannot wait for the next shifter book. Judging from the last page of this book, I already know who it is going to be about and I cannot wait!

This book was told in alternating points of view between Andi and A.J. I liked being in both of these characters' heads. I absolutely adored Andromeda (Andi) and her butt- kicking, ninja ways. She was a complete bad ass through and through and was not afraid to put the men in their place if they have thought to doubt her toughness. The girl is a champ! But ah, she is a closet girly girl. I liked that she had different layers to her personality and I felt like she was a very well put- together character. I really know her as a character and what makes her tick.

A.J is a hot, tough-guy with a bit of a silly streak, which totally endeared me to him. A hot guy with a bit of a sense of humor. *melts* He knows what he wants and he has no compulsions about going for it. And he wants Andromeda. The man is so hot. And he fights like a dream. He gives Andi a run for her money in the bad ass department. Only she has more style. ;) Needless to say, there were very vivid and entertaining fight scenes in both human and animal form between these and other characters.

I really liked the explanations of the different "dares" and the nerd in me was eating up the native american origins for the different terms used in the groups. hehe. There was a lot of political and strategical description, which blurred a little bit for me. For the most part, though, I found it interesting and smiled a little while I was reading it, thinking about how bad ass Andi is. Oh, and factoring in the personalities of cougars and the fact that they are solitary creates was an excellent addition to the story. It was interesting that they are trying to co- habitate in packs when they are not necessarily pack- driven animals.

There are interesting shifter dynamics between the other animals as well. The wolves really intrigue me. It seems like they are quite villainous and just out to kill, but I got a deeper sense of.. well.. something hinting at them as being further investigated. I love how they are crazy and virtually unstoppable when they are set to kill. hehe. Well, I didn't really get to see them in action very much. But they are described as terrifying and murderous. :D

Kyle Carstairs, the big bad villain, was... Well. Meh. There was a lot of talk about how crazy powerful he and his father are. They are not really a large part of the book, however. I found myself constantly forgetting that they were supposed to be a threat. I got a decent fight scene at the end, however. There was more back-story on the bad guys than there was actual atrocities and evil demonstrated in the book. But I can dig it. (: I just want a little more villainy in the next one. hehe.

The romance was pretty hot for the most part, and sweet in others, which is a fantastic combination in my opinion. It felt a bit rushed sometimes with some insta -love vibes, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Some of the stuff was a tiny bit cliche and overdone, but I did not put the book down once and I devoured it in a few hours.

I will most definitely be reading the next book and I will also be recommending this to all my shifter/romance lovers. hehe.

Andromeda's Fall is perfect for lovers of paranormal romance, shifter romance, bad-ass characters with crazy fighting skills, and anyone who wants a book full of a variety of supernatural political craziness. If that made any sense. ;)

4.4/5

Quotes/ short Excerpts
(I had to include some. This book was too cute)

Andi wrinkled her nose at the sight of blood coating the front of his shirt. "Broke your nose" she called in a sweetly innocent voice.

He glared and then shot a bloody grin over her shoulder at the man standing silently behind her. "Damn, A.J. can we keep her?"

A.J. Shrugged. "It's up to the Alpha"
She closed the door with a soft click and then fell back against it with an audible sigh. She couldn't fall for A.J. Not while her future depended on Jaxon Keller.
"You did a good job finding that spot on the rock for a watch point. I don't think any of our sentries have tried it. Clear, wide range to view, and difficult to spot you. It took me quite some time to track you. Is it completely inappropriate to say that your skills are pretty hot?"

Andi, already fighting the shivers his warm breath on her ear had caused, compressed her lips and forced herself not to react.

"A.J.," she warned.

She felt his deep sigh as much as she heard it.

"Inappropriate then," he said, resignation in his voice.
Andi crossed her arms. "Don't I look calm and rational to you?" Jaxon grimaced. She did. A little too much. "You've got to be furious with me. Shouldn't you, I don't know, be throwing things or something?"
"All right. But don't take too long. I have a better chance of protecting you if you marry me or someone in the dare. And don't think I'm suggesting that second option, because I'm not.
"Think anyone would miss us if we skipped out for a little while?" Before she could answer, he added, "Nope. Never mind. I can't wait that long. Think they'd be shocked if I just bent you over this table and--"

She smacked the back of his head.

"Ouch. That hurt, wildcat." He rubbed the spot.

Falling by J. Bennett Blog Tour {Review + Quotes}

BLURB:
The intellectual challenge of college and the warm embrace of a serious boyfriend have given Maya the wings she needs to break away from her bookish and shy reserve. Her ideal life comes crashing down when she and her boyfriend are accosted by a stranger. A stranger with glowing hands.

Maya's boyfriend is killed. She is kidnapped. Changed.

A rescue comes, but not soon enough.

Maya’s senses sharpen, her body becomes strong and agile, and she develops the ability to visually see the emotions of those around her as colorful auras…beautiful auras…tempting auras.

And then there’s the song…

Now, Maya must struggle to control the murderous appetite that fuels her new abilities, accept her altered condition and learn to trust two vigilante half-brothers she never knew she had. As she joins the battle against a secret network of powerful and destructive beings that call themselves "Angels", Maya vows to find and destroy the one who changed her.

On the bright side, at least Maya's oldest half-brother has stopped trying to kill her.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13504404-falling

My Review

Maya is living a totally normal life until she gets swept up off her feet, literally. All in one night she gets kidnapped by an angel and learns she has two half brothers oh and the elephant in the room is that is turning into a monster. She now has to survive on animals auras if not she could go on a killing spree. If things couldn’t get worse, her older brother is always looking for an excuse to kill her. At least she has Gabe her other brother and her memories without them she would not be able to make it through the day.

This was a very fast read, but I enjoyed the book. I felt that Tarren was a little harsh at times but seeing as what he has gone through makes me forgive him. The book has a unique take on angels, which I haven’t seen in other books. You can become and angel by these injections, but once you become and angels you don’t eat food you eat people. You will have to leave off people’s life force; drain them dry. This book was mainly about Maya and her transition from human to not so human. We get all the deets to how you become and angel and how every single one of them is dangerous, including her. It has a lot of background info on all the siblings. I’m pretty sure that the next book is going to have more action in it or Maya actually learning how to defend herself. I think this was a great start to the series and I except big things from here on out. :D

Gabe hides his feeling behind his smiles and jokes but he is not fooling anyone. I really liked Gabe and my heart breaks for him because he is tired of hunting angels. Yet he knows they are the only ones that can do it. He sacrifices his own happiness to save the world.  He was what held this book together. If he wasn’t in it is would just be Maya and Tarren scowling at each other. He always had jokes….some not funny lol but you can’t help but to like him.

Tarren hides his pain behind his scowls. The only person he trusts is his brother but he still doesn’t open up to him. He is all business. No play. He is a bit of a hard A** but I still like him. Maybe it’s the scar on his face or his body or his vulnerable. Well I think he is very vulnerable, he is going to break down one day and I wish I could be there to hold him. UGH why do I like the guys that are jerk?! UGH ok I think he just acts like that so he doesn’t get close to anyone, so I forgive myself and him.

Maya is struggling to keep the hunger at bay everyday. She is so strong but doesn't realize it yet.  She was down on herself a couple of time, but wouldn't you if your life just got turned upside down. I think she has the potential to do great things, she just has to start believing in herself, not just wanting people t think that for her. By the end I think she grew a pair and finally stood up to Tarren. I think there relationship is gaining ground because of that though. It's all out in the open now. Maya is a great character that has to deal with the hunger and losing the one she loves the most. It a lot for a girl to take in, but will she succumb to the madness?

Overall: A unique book about angels that has two hot guys that know how to handle a gun and a girl that just happens to be turned into a deadly monster.

Quotes:

The fight was totally epic. The angel was ten times stronger than an elephant and twenty times faster than a cheetah, but the brothers held their own using Matrix-like skills. Blood flowed. Ribs were cracked.

Non sum quails eram.  I am something different now. Something inhuman and I can’t explain what it feels like to not be the thing you always were. To hear the hunger as a song no one else can hear; a song that racks your body and entices you to kill.

This is how Gabe rescues me again, like he always does. I look down at my sleeping brother, and I need someone to believe in me. I need to know that someone thinks I’m strong enough to save myself, even if I don’t

Resisting Atlantis by Jamie Canosa Blog Tour + Giveaway

Hi All!!! Today is my birthday and I have a great book to showcase on it!!!!! Jamie Canosa is a great author and if you haven't heard of her, you should totally check her out. And be sure to enter the giveaway to win a copy of Resisting Atlantis!

What if everything you think you know . . . is wrong?

Cora is your average college freshman. Battling the evils of boring classes and noisy dorms, her greatest concern is how to attract the attention of the drool-worthy, party-god next door.

That is, until Kaden comes barging into her life, insisting everything she knows is false. The family and friends she grew up with don’t exist. Her entire past a carefully-crafted fabrication, created to replace the truth.

Her name isn’t Cora, it’s Cameron. And she isn’t from New York. She hails from Atlantis. Yeah, that Atlantis. Oh yeah, and she’s psychic.

Crazy, right?

Except, tall, dark, and out-of-his-ever-loving-mind doesn’t come alone. Trouble follows, thrusting Cameron back into a world she can’t remember and a life she must reclaim if they’re going to make it out alive.

MY REVIEW

Cora’s Life is about to be turned upside down.

Lies. That’s what the guy, Kaden tells here. Everything that she knows is not real. Her memories are not her own. Confusion, hurt, violated, Cora doesn’t know what to believe. Kaden has uprooted her entire life or the life he knows. He tells her things that can’t be real, her from Atlantis. Everything becomes real once people start to try and kill you. Now she is with the resistance and the one thing they need she can’t give them because she can’t remember. Now they are in a race against time to bring back here memories and take out a threat that they might not survive. People will die, but who will come out the victor?

Cameron /Cora might not remember who she is, but she is willing to risk everything to win the war.

Gah All the feels after ending that book. The tears let loose and once they started I couldn’t stop. Cameron and Kaden kept coming up against obstacles everywhere they turned. I loved this book! Atlantis is a beautiful place, but beautiful can be deadly when there is a mad man as a king. Cameron and Kaden have been through so much and it’s just going to get harder for them, especially after that ending. Man the tears of frustration! I just wanted to hit something for the injustice. Resisting Atlantis has it all: EVIL bad guy, Romance, Kick-Butt characters, Awesome Powers, world building was fantastic, and action at every turn. You won’t be able to put it down, so get comfortable and have chips and tissue handy.

Things about Resisting Atlantis that make it stand out over other books I’ve read.

  1. The female lead is pretty awesome and has cool powers, but she isn’t the biggest baddest out there. Everyone in the book has their own strengths.
  2. Cameron is not the bad guys’ target. Yeah they are trying to kill her, but she is just in the way. They are after someone else *gasp* I know I was shocked as well. The bad guys always want the female lead, but not this book.
  3. Cameron is pretty but not every guy wants her, not that she would want then anyway. She has her sights on someone else.
  4. No Love triangle. I know a lot of books don’t have them but most of them do. I actually like love triangles, but this book wouldn’t have felt the same with one. It was perfect the way it was. The romance wasn’t the main focus of the book, the resistance was.
  5. The abilities they have. Yes, some of them I was familiar with, but I like the names. Especially forecasting. You think it would be something to do with the weather but it isn’t. Forecasting is when you can see into the future but only a couple of seconds or minutes. It’s pretty handy in a fight. There are some major players in the game and they have some scary powers that make me cringe.

Cameron is a hard character to explain. When she was Cora I swear we could have been the same person. We both love books, doodle while the teacher is talking, and we both are funny. Ok so maybe that sounds like a lot of people but whatever lol Well that changed when she became Cameron. I think I actually like her more as Cameron. She is brave and selfless. I admire her courage yet she doesn’t see it in herself. She trusts her instincts and sometimes they are a little slow, but most of the time she gets it right. I want her to have a happy life with Kaden but I don’t think that will ever happen, which is tragic!

Kaden is loyal and caring and loving and protective. His love for Cameron astounds me. I felt both of their pains at being in a war and wanting to be with someone and not knowing if either one is going to make it. That is horrible, and he just wants Cameron safe no matter what even if he has to sacrifice himself. I admire him as a man…now where can I find one like him in real life :D oooh and those eyes O.O Yes please.

Overall: Resisting Atlantis was gut-wrenchingly good and I didn’t want it to end. I may have only given it 4.5 stars but it’s one of the best this year. Jamie Canosa knows how to tell a story, tear your heart out, while making you want more. The wait for the next one is going to be torturous!

Quotes:

Fighting off the urge to toss a comic book his way, I go in search of what I came for. Mind numbing, heart stopping, soul searching fiction. The only magic that truly exists in the world.

There’s nothing gentle or sweet about his kiss, as I imagined there to be. It’s like he’s finally let go, released his iron grip on control, and together we dive headfirst into passion and desire.

4.3 STARS!

Author Info:
Jamie Canosa is a full time author of YA/NA literature, which she absolutely loves. When she’s not writing or spending time with her family, she can usually be found with her nose in a book. She currently resides in Upstate NY with her husband, and their three crazy kids . . . plus the cat, the bird, and the rabbit.

Inspiration for Waybrooke
Julie Barkey

What inspired you to write Waybrooke? This seems to be a common question among my readers. There was nothing in particular that sent my mind tumbling into the world of Waybrooke. The very first seed (which ended up growing into the whole scenario with powers and E.Y.E) was the idea for Scott’s character. He was the very first thought and evidently one of the last since I had no idea what I was going to end up doing with him until I reached the end of the book. In a way, the idea of the story surrounds Scott’s character. Of course I’ve always been a superhero fan so that aspect was put into play. There are pieces of people that I know personally thrown into the characters so that made making them even more fun.

Fun Fact:

While trying to get inside Scott’s head I listen to songs like ‘Valcano’, ‘Love the Way You Lie’, and ‘Never Think’.
