~EXCERPT~
My heart felt as if it would burst from my chest as I watched hopelessly while Ethryen ascended into midair, his fingers tightly wrapped around Chace’s neck. "Chace!" I cried, running towards them.
Jesse grabbed my arm and tugged me back. "Don’t!" he warned as Ethryen floated over the dark pit with Chace. "He’ll drop him."
"Do something!" I screamed at him, and then looked across at Ophelia and the man with long gray hair.
They took slow steps forward but halted when Ethryen yelled, "Back! Or I’ll release him to the depths of this pit!"
"Why can’t you just give up?" Chace choked out. "It’s over!"
Ethryen growled. "It’s never over!" He drenched himself in a massive amount of red flames. It seeped from his body and trailed along the rocks to the ground of the cave, blazing all around us. "Give me the amulet or watch them die!"
Chace struggled to free himself, clawing at Ethryen’s fiery hand at his neck.
I moved forward again. Jesse wrenched me back. "We have to help him!" I shouted through clenched teeth.
Ethryen glared down at me, cackling viciously. He commanded his flames to blaze higher. It flared in front of me and Jesse, forcing us back against the rocks. Jesse moved me behind him, protecting me from the flames. I tightly grasped his arm, desperate, wanting so badly to stop Ethryen once and for all.
The monster spun back to Chace. "The amulet!" he barked. "Release the power to me! Now!"
Chace gazed down at me with widened eyes, remorse veiling his face. Then with his left hand he started to rifle in his pocket.
"Don’t do it!" Ophelia urged. She tried to diminish Ethryen’s flames with her own, but it was useless. The fire only blazed more, keeping us back.
Fearing for our lives, Chace snatched the amulet out of his pocket and held it up before Ethryen.
"No!" Dorin, the older man, and Ophelia shouted all at once.
"Speak the words!" Ethryen ordered. "Now!"
"Stop your flames first!" Chace bargained, tight-lipped and fuming.
Ethryen growled, "Do you really think you can bargain with me, boy?" He waved his free hand and the red flames edged closer to us. Our backs pressed against the rocks. Should his fire touch our bodies it would have the same impact on the others as it did on me earlier. And I wasn’t sure I’d survive another hit like that.
"I’ll do it!" Chace hollered fearfully, his hand shaking with the amulet. He looked down at me, and I knew what he was about to do. Chace would give Ethryen what he wanted just so he could protect me.
I couldn’t allow it.
There must be a way to stop this.

BLITZ: Sophie's Quest by Sonja Anderson (MG/Children's Book)

On tour with Prism Book Tours.

Book Blitz for
Sophie's Quest
By Sonja Anderson

Sophie's Quest is currently only 99¢ for Kindle!

Interview with Author Sonja Anderson

1. What is your motivation behind Sophie’s Quest? Why did you want to write it?

The character of Sophie Topfeather popped into my head many years ago when I was teaching a multi-faith class at St. Mary's International School in Tokyo, Japan. According to many stories, owls are supposed to be wise, and it felt like we could use a wise owl in our class to help me answer all the kids' great questions about God. Then, about fifteen years ago, my five-year-old daughter got into heated discussion about God on the playground with two other students from different religious backgrounds, and my wise owl popped back into my head again. I wanted to write a story that would help her understand others better in our diverse community, and for her friends to also understand her.

2. What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read it?

I hope that first of all, they take away the feeling that they have made some special friends on the journey, and want to know what happens next! I also hope and pray that readers will have developed compassion for others who believe differently than they do, and an increased desire to know the true Sky Painter--Jesus, Immanuel, God with us.

3. Do you have a favorite scene?

I love all the scenes with Sophie and Timley, but some of my favorite scenes are between the Great Wise Horned Owl and Timley's very frightened mother. Their love for their missing children helps them forge a strong bond that is very special.

4. What is something about you that is unique?

I write from home with a view of Puget Sound. While writing Sophie's Quest, I would watch container ships go by and imagine Sophie and Timley on board.

Sophie Topfeather loves to collect people-things with which to decorate her life and home. When she finds a golden necklace, she is intrigued by its shape and shows it to her grandfather, the Great Wise Horned Owl of the Park. His reaction only stirs her interest even more; he calls it a holy symbol, and then a ‘t’ for ‘trouble’! All of which sets our young owl off on a Quest to learn its true meaning. Little does she know that a day-dreaming, over-protected, adventure-seeking Pirate – er, mouse – named Timley has leapt into the brim of her hat as Sophie flies off on her Quest! And suddenly, their adventure takes its own turn as they find themselves on board a ship bound for the Holy Land. Thorns and thistles! Has the trouble started already? Can Timley convince Sophie she should not—I repeat, NOT—eat him?

This is also the story of the mysterious Sky Painter, who seems to be with them—no, leading them—on their Quest. So, why is he always leading them straight into trouble? Was the Great Wise Horned Owl right all along? Come along on the Quest to find out! Cross oceans with Sophie and Timley to a land of mosques and synagogues, markets and Bedouin tents, and, like our unlikely friends, you may never be the same again!

While It Last by Paige Rion Blog Tour {Reviews + Giveaway}

Hey all! Today is my birthday and what better way to celebrate than to read some awesome books. Well I have two books today that fit into that category. A bonus is the giveaway at the end of the post. :D

WRITTEN ON HER HEART (BOOK 1) BLURB

Andi Callaway has dreamed of becoming a published author her entire life.

Ford Delaney has always wanted nothing more than to escape his past.

An opportunity of a lifetime. This is what Andi finds when she returns home to Callaway Cove on summer break. A chance to work for her literary idol Ford Delaney is up for grabs, and she’s willing to risk everything—her boyfriend, her best friends, and her education—to get it.

She’s positive this will be the key to reaching her dreams. But the moment she begins working for the reclusive author, Andi realizes there’s more to him than just a name. As attraction builds between Andi and Ford, she begins to discover consequences must come hand-in-hand with something great—which could loosen control over her tightly wound life. And once romantic sparks fly, Andi’s other relationships start to crumble, Ford’s fame comes back to haunt him, and the heat they generate will either forge a powerful, enduring love or threaten everything she holds dear.

MY REVIEW

Andi has just found out about an opportunity of a life time when she arrives home. Her favorite author Ford Delaney is in Callaway cove and is looking for an assistant. Her dream is to become a full time writer and this is just the chance she needs to make it big. The only problem is her friend trying to sabotage her and her boyfriend not being supportive. Andi pushes past that though because she always has her mind on the prize which is to get her romance novel out there.

Ford Delaney is on the run since people found out that some of his books are not fiction but have actual events from his life. He thinks that Callaway cove is the perfect hideout spot to get back in the grove of writing. What he didn’t expect was to find someone that he connects with on so many levels.

Will these two take a shot at love or will they leave the fairytales to the books?

Written On Her Heart started out really good to me and got better as the book progressed. This book really interested me in particular because it is about an inspiring author. You never know how hard it is to become a published author until you start to write. There are a lot of things you have to do in order to become one, like get and agent and write a query letter. A lot of useful information was in the book for readers that also want to become writers.

The only part of the book I was iffy about was her having a boyfriend and having feeling for someone else. My mind was put to rest when I realized there is no cheating involved. The relationship between Andi and Ford was flirty and they told each other about their lives. It was this that made them start to have feeling for one another. And of course there was romance. I think my favorite part of the book was the boat scene. They bother were carefree and didn’t have any worries while they were on the water.

Oh there is also the thing with her friend Rachel. I’m sorry but the way Rachel was acting was not friend like. She really got on my nerves and I wished bad things upon her in the book. I feel horrible about wishing those things though. It became clear at the end why she was acting the way she was.

Andi is a bit of a control freak and has her whole life planned out. That’s why she has such a hard time with her feelings for Ford because it wasn’t a part of her plan. She also tends to ignore things that are right in front of her like her boyfriend not really supporting her. She always makes excuses but that’s probably because she is a good person. I mean she isn’t a saint; it isn’t until later in the book that she really questions why her friends are acting the way they are. She is so focused on getting her book out there that she forgets her friends.

Carma is one of Andi’s friends but she really didn’t appear in the book a lot. I’m really interested in reading a story about her because of what was revealed about her in Written On Her Heart. She seems really sweet and shy….hey kinda like me…and probably a whole lot of other people lol Anyways I liked her more than Rachel.

Ford is a dreamy writer that isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. I laughed at the parts with Andi’s boyfriend. He sure knows how to get under people’s skin. The on thing I didn’t like about him was him playing the field, as I like to call it. Or he kept his options open. That really makes me mad when someone likes someone and leads on another person to make the one they really like jealous. WOW I need to clean up that sentence but I’m just going to leave it. Lol

Overall: Written On Her Heart was a clean and romantic read. It will have you wanting to write your very own romance novel. :D

P.S. Have you looked at that cover? Can you say dreamy and gorgeous?

Excerpt

“It is time.” Her voice purred like a kitten, but Indiana suspected she was really a feral animal on the inside. “For what?” Her voice was raspy, hesitant and unsure if she really wanted to know the answer. Somewhere, deep inside, she suspected she already knew. “Just remember I’m doing this for us,” Sam whispered into her ear. “So we can be together forever.” Before Indiana could question him further, she felt a flurry of hands over her body. Indiana tried to open her eyes, but a warm hand reached up and carefully covered them. Indiana was bitten – hard, and she groaned in pleasure. Shocked by her unexpected display, she clutched her hands outwards. Feeling the writhe of skin on skin, she tried to pull herself free. The tickle of fingers across her neck and down her spine calmed her with their warm familiarity. “It’s okay, Indiana.” The feathery words danced across her skin, warm like a summer breeze. She stilled and let Sam’s fingers intertwine with her own, relieved by his simple touch. Time seemed to move forward and Indiana was presented with brief snippets of fleeting images; Camilla biting Sam, biting her. Indiana enjoying the pain of Camilla’s sharp teeth as they gnashed at her neck, her thighs and her wrist. The flurry of skin and hands and teeth as they writhed together in the height of passion. Pale hands slithered over her own luminescent skin, then Sam’s darker skin brushed against her own, warming her and protecting her but against what she was unsure. Then Camilla poised over Sam, a knife in her hand. A flash of blood as it splayed out from a gaping neck wound. Indiana’s involuntary gasp and then choking sob at the sight of the cavernous hole. Hungry sucking as Camilla drank her fill. A warm hand, its fingers still laced through hers, slowing turning ice cold.

My Review

It’s been a year since Tess’s mom died. A year since she escaped Eden to live in the Badlands. That all changes when Ling finds her. Now Tess has to make a decision that could help save lives and just might take hers.  She can join Kudzu or stay in the Badlands to die. She knows the path she chooses will change her forever. What she doesn’t expect is the friendships she makes and actually finding a guy that she likes talking to.

Your every move is watched and there is hardly anyone that you can trust. It’ll be a peace of cake destroying the artificial intelligence before anyone finds out. Right?

This book was intense. There was always something happening and I felt that if I blinked I was going to miss something. Parched was action-packed and had me biting my nails. I usually don’t go for the science fiction books and robots and all that but parched interested me. Maybe it was the water drought that brought me in but I’m glad I got the chance to read this book. It was very interesting and I really enjoyed the robotic aspects of the book, which is a first.  Terms were being thrown at you but Tess knew how to distribute the information for us to understand. Could I tell you the names of some of the stuff she mentioned? Probably not but I knew what was what and how everything worked. There are different types of bots in the book. You have the substitutes that do things for you like getting you a bottle of water. Then there are the Quickies that basically round up anyone trying to get into Eden and detain them. Razors are the nasty ones, they can kill you. I feel like I am missing one…or two.

So there are five parts to parched and each part gets better and better. There are so many things they didn’t know until the very end and it just blew my mind when we found out. I mean it was one thing after another I just wanted to say stop but I couldn’t stop reading. I was like there is no way they can deal with this or how is Tess even functioning right now.

Overall: Parched was dynamic, mind boggling, and just outright good. It is definitely worth the read.

Tess is a very outspoken person and voices her opinions whether you want to hear them or not. Before the Badlands this wasn’t the case. She was living the life and was care free. The Badlands changed her and I think it was for the better because she now knows how they feel and she wants to help them. She gets hit with a lot in the book and it surprising how resilient she is. You have to admire her about that, most would have crumbled.

I also don’t think this book would have been the same without Ling. She is a major player in this game and she keeps everyone together. None of this would have happened without her and I want to give her that credit. Ling is someone that I would want as a friend. She is brilliant, trustworthy, and she is pretty bada**.

Hunter was a bit of a mystery to me at first. He started growing on me with his awkawardness because I’m an awkward person myself. He is basically a genius and I want him to do my homework. Annnnd based on his description he sounds pretty yummy.

There are so many more characters that I want to talk about but I’ll stop it at three. Loved all the characters and I hope there is going to be anther book. The way the book ended I hope there is going to be another one. *sobs* I need to know.
